I LOVE the way "Rome" has started it's second season. Pullo gets married, Vorenus curses (and then regrets it) his children to Hades, his children get kidnapped by that mobbed-up dude Arestes Forman from last season, Vorenus and Pullo kill EVERYONE in Forman's employ before beheading him.
Meanwhile, Ceasar gets his public funeral after young Octavius clues in all the adults how to bu-fu Brutus, his mom and his co-conspirators. That kid is WICKED smart. And then cocky, beautiful Marc Antony delivers the coup-de-grace and out-orates Brutus, who ends up being too smart for his own good.
And then the Senate conspirators have to split Rome.
Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Yes to all of the above.
Also awesome? When Pullo steals that random dude's horse to ride back to Rome. Even the little things rule on this show.

That and the fat orator out in front of the Senate announcing Ceasar's big funeral, saying that "prostitutes, actors and others of low profession are not allowed."

I will probably watch it tonight. (I've been saving it until I could finish Season 1. I have one episode to go.)
Don't worry about spoiling it. I've already read the review over at Twop.
What an amazing show. I love the complexity of the scripts. I also love how much time has elapsed just in season 1, alone. Something like 10 years or so? That's wonderful.
While this show isn't an equal to Deadwood, I've really enjoyed it, in that show's absence. (Speaking of Deadwood, the book, "Stories from the Black Hills" is an interesting read. David Milch writes like a college professor about "the value of gold" and the actors reveal interesting insights into the characters motivations. Suddenly, small things that they did, take on greater signifigance, when you look them from the actors perspective. check it out, if you get a chance.)
Between the Season 1 finale and the Season 2 premiere, I've got two amazing hours of tv ahead of me!

I haven't seen last night's ep, but I wanted to say I think they did a pretty good job transistioning between young Octavian and older Octavian. The actor did not look so shockingly different to distract.

I have nothing to add to this thread other than to say that the thread title cracks my ass up every time i see it.
oh, but i did watch the first 4-6 episodes of Rome's first season last year(?). I thought it was decent, but seemed to drag on though, kinda complicated and i didn't really care to follow too closely. And now I don't have cable TV anymore so [raspberry sound].

I'm done with Rome.
[[[SPOILERS]]]
[[[SPOILERS]]]
[[[SPOILERS]]]
I hate the fact that Va-re-nus and Pullo are everywhere. Those two were at the fall of Gaul, the crossing of the Rubicon, there is an implication that Pullo is the actual father of Julius Ceasar's child with Cleopatra, the were at the battle of Thiaman, the have been crime bosses, legionaries, senators, gladiators, and now...Pullo is Cicero's executioner. The story of the first second Triumverate (Antony, Augustus, and Lepidus) has probably inspired hundreds of novels. Why do they need to cram EVERYTHING THAT EVER HAPPENED IN ROME into the story of these two made up characters?
I'm done. That's all.
The first season was pretty tight.
First Episode: Ceasar crosses the Rubicon Last Episode: Ceasar is murdered for being a Tyrant. Arc: Ceasar makes the biggest gamble of his life...it pays off...and then he is murdered for being too powerful
This season has really lost a lot of focus. I can't even begin to describe what the arc is. Now they are throwing in Jewish revolutionaties. Please. make sweet love you HBO.
EDIT TO ADD: IF HBO hired me First Episode: Ceasar is cremated and gives his title to Octavian Last Episode: Octavian dissolves the Senate and changes his name to Emporor Augustus Arc: The official end of the Roman Republic.
Concentrate people. Concentrate.

Fight through to the end of the season Ryan. It's the last. That way you won't ever have to wonder how it turned out.
{SPOILER}
It turns out the Roman Empire falls.
