Anyone see last night's premiere? Well, you can see the first SIX episodes online!! www.nbc.com/Video/rewind/full_episodes/andybarker.shtmlI liked the pilot; I thought it was fun, funny and smart. I like that Andy uses his brain and makes conscious decsions to do things instead of just following luck and coincidence. And he uses Google. It's a good show!

I was highly amused.
6 episodes online?! That's got to be some kind of unprecedented marketing experiment. I don't really like undercutting the whole waiting-for-new-shows thing every week when it's a brand new TV show. Something is fishy about it. I don't like to sit and watch multiple episodes of a show unless I'm behind the times and want to catch up to folks who got to watch them like that.
I'm also getting increasingly frustrated by early cancellations of great shows and what seems like more fevered shuffling of show's date and time slots than ever before. I don't think networks know what to do with TV anymore, and they're completely abandoning the serial structure TV shows used to stick to. I know there's always been time slot shuffling, but it's definitely gotten more nuts, and when I see something like "undercut the experience of watching a new episode every week RIGHT NOW!!!!@#" I get disheartened. I think networks have never cared less about their unproven programs.
That and I hate watching TV on my computer. I like my YouTube under 5 minutes, please.

I enjoyed it, too. I'll be interested in where it goes from here, but I think they found the right style for these actors to succeed. I like Andy as a slightly nerdy smart guy forced into action. And I liked his friends (Buster from "Arrested Development" and the guy who runs the restaurant).
I still missed "30 Rock," but this isn't bad.

Did anyone else every see "Lookwell"? It's a pilot for a TV series created by Conan O'Brien about an ex-Tv star who played a detective who becomes a detective. It starred motherfracking Adam West! It was a great show but the suits (man, them again!?!?!) didn't buy it.

How is Conan involved in Andy Barker? I could totally smell him all over it, but I quick-glanced IMDB and didn't see a direct correlation. That bit with the priest darkly eating the sandwich while looking over the beaten-unconcious Andy had a very Conan air to it.

if you click on "more" on the Andy Barker IMDB listing you'll see that Conan is the executive producer, wrote a few episodes and co-created it with someother dude.

Awesome.
Again, all my ranting about online spoiling aside, I really liked this show and I can't wait to watch it again.

Solid.
It definitely has a different feel than other 22 minute sitcoms. Maybe it was the pilot, but the production values looked high, and really captures the feel of the private eye/noir genre.
For the pilot, it was pretty good. But then again, I'm a fanboy for all things Conan/Richter. I can imagine that it'll really pick up speed over the course of the six episodes as it finds it footing.
It's also a very "sweet" show -- even though its a "crime" show, it's got a very light feel to it.

Definitely a "sweet" show, Mac. Here's the thing for me... Andy DECIDES to investigate and discovers that he's good at it and really likes it. He doesnt' get forced into it, he doesn't fall assbackwards into the situation... he DECIDES. And I like people who make decisions.

Exactly! It hadn't occurred to me that way, Jason. But there were a series of writing maneuvers that really made the characters likable! That is a huge selling point for me.
- Andy chooses his involvement. - He is physically injured (funny) with little serious repercussions. (would be too serious) - Andy is passionate about things. - Andy is grounded in a marriage but has realistic money problems. - Andy fails in modest, endearing ways on a regular basis but nobody minds all that much.

I'll join the chorus of people who enjoyed the show and enjoyed the production values. The only problem with the production values? They almost guarantee that the show won't be picked up beyond this 6 episode run. I'm assuming that making something that looks this good is expensive and, let's face it, if we all like it, it probably doesn't have high ratings potential. High production costs + niche rating potential + actual quality of program = cancellation. I'm already bracing myself for the disappointment.
