I just discovered these on Tuesday.
I read Book 1 on Tuesday at the downtown borders. That afternoon, I bought Books 2 & 3. Yesterday, I bought book 4.
Fucking Brilliant.
Several times, I'd read something and shout out, "No FUCKING way" because something amazing or incredible had happened.
It's a fascinating book. I've caught myself thinking about it, in my off hours. How I would defend the prison. How I would zombie-proof the whole thing. Where I would get more guns and bullets, etc.
What hope do the survivors have? It's a whole new feeling of dread, knowing that any time any of them die, from then on, they will become one of those things. That terrible bit of information, changes everything.
God, what a brilliant, but horrible book.
Is anyone else, but me, reading them? I feel so alone.

The new artist is terrible. Well, he's drawn 80% of the comics now, but the original artist of the series was so much freaking better it hurts. I have all the volumes but I'm having a really hard time with them now. I can't tell people apart, the art is so crappy.
If you like it, check out Invincible, also written by Robert Kirkman. It truly is the best superhero comic ever. The supporting characters are many in number and completely awesome on their own.

I will check that out, Telfer. I was curious about it, once I started getting into this particular series.
And I ABSOLUTELY agree about the degrarding quality of the art. It's a HUGE difference. The first artist was so, so good!
I just read the wikipedia page about the book and what's coming up...and make sweet love. This book is insane. There's no WAY that I could've anticipated where this thing was going.
Amazing book. I think it's definite strength is the writing. Kirkman is making such surprising choices here. I also like how detailed he is in his exploration of the tedium of life in this world.
I officially like it more than "Y; The Last Man" and I used to like that book A LOT.
Do you read the individual issues, Telfer? Or just the books?
Just curious, COB

I read Invincible issue by issue, but it's the only comic I do that with. Walking Dead I thought about buying post-trade issues of, but the art discouraged and finally dissuaded me from putting in the effort.
Kirkman books and Joss Whedon's X-Men are the only things I'm really reading.

I don't really do monthly books anymore. I stick strictly to trades. One of those is the Whedon Xmen trades. I'm really enjoying that particular title. Although, I have to admit that the Re-emergence of Cassandra Nova storyline was a little confusing for me. It took a re-read to make it clear what was real and what was a mental fabrication.
Dan, Have you read Fables or anything about it? If not, I'd be happy to loan them to you. It's one of the best series that I've ever read. Consistently smart writing there and the artworks usually pretty good, too.
